The site at 46 High Street is being converted into coffee shop Hatch and Barrel offering cakes and pastries, with plans for a wine bar element later in the day.
The project follows earlier proposals submitted to Eastleigh Borough Council to change the unit – previously occupied by a Mountbatten charity shop – from retail use.
As reported, it will be run by couple Kate and Kevin Portsmouth, together with pal Gavin Henbest.
Ward councillor Steve Broomfield confirmed progress is now underway, with an opening expected soon.

“It’s hoped to add a wine bar in the evenings, but that’s been delayed by EBC’s planning system so won’t be cleared until June.
“Looks like a great addition to West End, but this is not a recommendation, just information for residents about good things happening in your community.”
The development is expected to bring a new social space to the village.
