Southampton Science and Engineering Festival, University of Southampton, Saturday

Southampton Science and Engineering Festival (SOTSEF) is the University of Southampton’s annual award-winning interdisciplinary science festival that allows everyone to explore and discover what the world of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) has to offer.

This British Science Week, join an interdisciplinary journey of discovery with a series of free events.

The family-friendly event packed with hundreds of interactive activities, workshops, live shows, art performances and laboratory tours, will be back on campus between 10.30am and 4.30pm.

Soton Makers Market, MAST Mayflower Studios, Saturday

Enjoy this curated market featuring art, textiles, ceramics, candles and more from creatives across the region.

The Soton Makers Spring Market has been carefully curated to offer a beautiful selection of handmade items from makers in and around the Southampton area. 

Featuring art and illustration, ceramics, candles, soap, textiles and more, the market is a celebration of unique and artisan work from talented creatives.

The market was born as a means of giving exposure to this talented collective of artists, printmakers and illustrators, textile designers,  ceramicists and more.

It’s free to attend between 10am and 5pm. 

Family photography workshop, Sir Harold Hillier Gardens, Saturday

Do you have a child interested in photography?

Caroline Jenkins, a local photographer, will be teaching the fundamentals of taking a good photo including composition and how to use light effectively.

She will be on hand to answer photography questions and help you get some great results.

An outdoor session, all theory will take place during a walk around the gardens.

The event is suitable for 12 to 16-year-olds who must be accompanied by an adult.

Footloose, Mayflower Theatre, until Saturday night

Footloose is back with Jake Quickenden (Dancing on Ice Winner, Hollyoaks) as loveable cowboy Willard and TV and musical theatre star Darren Day.

City boy Ren thinks life is bad enough when he’s forced to move to a rural backwater in America. But his world comes to a standstill when he arrives at Bomont to find dancing and rock music are banned. Taking matters into his own hands, soon Ren has all hell breaking loose and the whole town on its feet.

Based on the 1980s screen sensation which took the world by storm, Footloose sizzles with classic hits including Holding Out for a Hero, Almost Paradise and Let’s Hear It For The Boy.

Circus Extreme, Mayflower Park, until Sunday

It’s your last chance to see the circus before the Big Top is packed away and moves on.

Merging modern and contemporary styles with extreme stunts and classic clown escapades, audiences will be amazed by the jam-packed Circus Extreme production which features show-stopping performances that will have you on the edge of your seat.

Acts include the Ayala Troupe, who will be performing their award-winning high wire act which has never been seen before in the UK. 

The Extreme freestyle motocross team will be bringing jaw-dropping stunts to the Big Top as pilots fly through the air displaying cliff-hanger stunts. The stunt riding team will also be performing the Globe of Death.

Walking the slack wire is Tatiana Kundyk showcasing her incredible balancing skills all performed in a distinctive style for this new production.
