Mother Hubbard’s Famous Fish and Chips is opening in Shirley on Saturday, January 24.
The shop, at 96 Shirley High Street, is offering a full fish and chip dinner for 45p for the first 1,000 customers.
New owners, brother and sister Rajdeep Kaur and Tony Singh, said they are looking forward to opening to the public.
Rajdeep said: “We are really excited to be opening.”
“People have been knocking on the window asking when we’re opening, which is really positive.”
Mother Hubbard’s was founded in Bradford in 1972 and has since grown into one of the UK’s largest fish and chip franchises, with dozens of shops operating nationwide.
The siblings said the decision to open the shop was about more than starting a new business.
Tony said: “It’s a traditional food and something people really love.”
He said he is looking forward to contributing to the community, adding that the shop is actively recruiting and hopes to provide job opportunities for young people.
“A lot of young people are looking for work, and we wanted to create opportunities for them.”
Rajdeep and Tony live in Andover but said they felt Southampton was the right place to open the shop after visiting the area regularly for shopping.

They said: “Fish and chips is a traditional food, and we feel like this area doesn’t have a proper fish and chip shop.”
The shop has been refurbished in line with Mother Hubbard’s branding, with walls adorned with historical images from British newspapers.
The first Mother Hubbard’s fish and chips restaurant on Ingleby Road, Bradford, was completed at a cost of £92,000 and opened in 1972 by Coronation Street favourites Stan and Hilda Ogden. At the time, fish and chips were served at just 45p per portion.
To mark the opening and celebrate the history behind the brand, the Shirley shop will be selling fish and chips at the original 45p price.
The store will be open seven days a week from 11am until 11pm.
