Transition Southampton’s AGM will consist of socialising with others interested in the environment and sharing the inspiring stories of local activists and campaigners who are already undertaking amazing activities in Southampton to help save our planet. It will also have an overview of Transition Southampton, a discussion of the Chair’s report and Transition’s finance report and elections for the new committee.
Southampton has a long history of environmental activism but many who live here don’t know the stories of the people involved. We have many Greenham Common women living in our city and there is a strong connection to all that happened at Twyford Down. We also have The Environment Centre, many local groups who have campaigned to save and care for our green spaces and our waterways, and, more recently, a policy changing Clean Air Campaign and a group campaigning to save trees in Marhill Copse. This is just a snapshot of things that have and are happening in our city.
At our AGM you can meet and chat to people who:
- Volunteer and lead repair cafes
- Travelled to Europe by rail and are an eco home owner
- Provide advice on green gardening
- Campaign to make Southampton a National Park City
- Support community business and help localise the economy
- Designed a rat proof composting bin
- Help unleash the power of imagination to create the future we want
- Run a ‘Make ‘n’ Mend social group
An hour of the AGM is dedicated to 3, 20-minute sessions where attendees can talk to 3 of the local activists and campaigners, hear their stories, and ask questions. Whether you are interested in learning about the environment and what you can do to make a difference or are already involved in environmental work, come and meet others who are just as passionate, or to gain some inspiration for a project of your own!
The event is free to attend. It has limited numbers and will be offered on a first-come first-served basis. Book your place on Eventbrite.
