Eastleigh resident Janet Standen had her wish granted to enjoy a day of shopping and an evening full of laughter – complete with a ‘cheeky’ meal served by a ‘Butler in the Buff’ — thanks to the Care for a Wish initiative run by one of the UK’s leading providers of home care, Caremark.
Launched to mark the company’s 20th anniversary, Care for a Wish is granting wishes to just 20 people across the UK to create meaningful moments for people receiving care. Janet, who has been receiving care from Caremark Winchester & Eastleigh since 2021, was one of just 20 people across the UK chosen to have their wish granted as part of the campaign.
Accompanied by her Care Assistant Kate Seacombe, Janet’s special day began with a trip to a local garden centre, where she enjoyed browsing the plants and gifts before heading into town for some high street shopping and lunch. The day was completed with a takeaway dinner at Janet’s home — served by none other than a ‘Butler in the Buff’.
Commenting on having her wish come true, Janet said: “Kate knows me very well and really knows how to look after me. It was so nice to spend the day with her. It really meant everything to me. And it was a lot of fun to meet the Butler!”
That evening, the ‘Butler in the Buff’ arrived to serve up Janet’s favourite meal of sweet and sour chicken with rice and prawn crackers, creating a lively, laughter-filled atmosphere from the start.
Kate, who has been Janet’s Care Assistants since 2022, added: “I felt privileged to be able to spend the day with Janet. We laughed so much being served dinner by the ‘Butler in the Buff’!”
After dinner, the Butler led a game called ‘Find the Bandage’, filling the room with giggles, before the Butler danced to some of Janet’s favourite songs.
David Glover, CEO of Caremark, said:
“It’s incredibly humbling to be able to grant these wishes for the people we care for. These wishes are all about the opportunity for our customers to have moments of joy and create new memories that will be cherished.
“Making fun experiences happen for our wonderful customers like Janet is a complete privilege. It speaks to the very essence of who we are as a home care provider — committed to enhancing quality of life, not just meeting care needs.
“This campaign isn’t just a celebration of 20 years – it’s a reminder of why we do what we do here at Caremark. We’re here to support people’s wellbeing . . . we all believe life is for living, not just existing.”
